Home Team Report:
This was as close as we could have come to beating the defending champions: leading 2-0 and then losing three frames on the pink.

Kelvin got us off to a winning start after a measured performance against Ian. After a long duel on the brown, there was a sense of inevitability about the frame coming down to the black. Kelvin had first chance, missed and left it safe. Ian's own safety reply was unlucky to leave the black up over the middle and Kelvin made no mistake.

Chris built on our winning momentum and compiled breaks of 21 and 17 to pull away from Ian in the second frame. He conceded on the brown and, for the first time this season, we led 2-0 in a match.

Unfortunately for us, that was as good as it got - but we gave the rest of the night our best shot. Once he hit his stride, Matt crafted a superb clearance of 58 to pull a frame back for Windlesham. I had the pleasure of refereeing this and the laser-like precision with which Matt strikes the ball is always a delight to watch. His pinpoint positional shot from pink to black around three cushions was excellent.

This didn't deter Kelvin, who returned for the fourth frame and again held a good lead for much of the frame: 20 points at one stage. Matt made a break at a key-time before surprisingly going in-off the blue. Kelvin couldn't take advantage and Matt's pot on the pink levelled the match.

Nick and I then played two very similar frames - both of which came down to the pink. I made a very slow, rusty start in the fifth before springing into life. From there, I played quite well in parts but Nick's safety was more telling at key moments.
