CANCELLATION OF LEAGUE MATCHES
January 9, 2012
At tonights league meeting the 'cancellation of matches' was discussed and I have been asked to put the rule and procedure on the website. The process is that if a team seeks to cancel a match they must contact either the match secretary, Trevor Connors 07947687930 or Kelvin Jones 07767796102 and give their reason for the cancellation. If agreed they should contact the opposing captain and try and arrange an alternative date within 28 days or before the end of that season, whichever is soonest. If no date is arranged at that point then the opposing captain can offer three dates of their choice, not all in the same week, to play the match.
In Division One the following matches : Egham Utd A v Staines Cons C, West Byfleet Social A v Egham Utd A and in Divison Two - Knaphill v West Byfleet Social D and Ottershaw v Egham Utd B must be played by February 6th and the results sent or emailed to Trevor. [Full Story]

LEAGUE RECORD BREAK BY PAUL BUNYARD
November 1, 2011
In a league match on Thursday 10th November Woking Snooker Centre's PAUL BUNYARD eclipsed Sean Harvey's 2005 break of 135 with a magnificent 139 clearance.
This is PAUL'S 5th century break in the Byfleet League having made his first in 1995.
Despite having had two breaks from playing league and competitive snooker PAUL returned last season and helped his team retain the Premier title, won the Snooker Championship and hit the winning shot for the Inter League team. Seemingly enjoying the game again he has been playing well and good judges at Woking having been saying that in practice he has been playing some super snooker and a ton in the league was imminent. With team mate MARK LEONARD holding the Billiards Highest ever break with a staggering 141 and NEIL CLAYTON notching up two centuries last season both Woking and the Byfleet League have talent in abundance.

INTER LEAGUE - BYFLEET A v THAMES VALLEY A
October 31, 2011
On the eve of halloween Byfleet's Inter league teams were denied any treats both losing out in their first round matches.
With the draw pitching four of the top 5 teams together in the first round it was no shock whatever the outcomes as both matches were evens each of two.
The full report follows but surely it is time for the organisers to introduce seeding otherwise the annual practice of 'good teams knocking each other out' in early rounds will diminish interest.
Mind you I would say that wouldn't I having drawn Harrow A and Thames Valley A twice in opening matches in the last three seasons.
Albeit we went on to win the tournament the last two seasons surely the aim is to get the best two teams in the two legged final? [Full Story]

THE DRAW, MEMBERSHIPS, MISS RULE, PRESENTATION EVENING.
October 16, 2011
Some guidelines follow for the above 4 topics.
THE DRAW IN THE PREMIER DIVISION -
last week two Premier teams nominated their order in a way that is contrary to how the league rule should be interpreted. For clarification whilst you are permitted to play with more than three players in all cases each two frames have to be in the following order: 1 & 2, 3 & 4 or 5 & 6. Any player playing two frames in a Premier match has to play in any of the above order. No penalty will be issued for last weeks matches but in future there will be points deducted for any manipulation of the playing order.
MEMBERSHIP -
The league rule that all players must be bona fide members of the club they are representing is being relaxed in order to accomodate 1. juniors 2. players that have applied for membership 3. where the club have given their permission for the player to represent them.
MISS RULE -
As a result of feedback at the October meeting it seems that the miss rule is again causing a problem. Following discussion this proposal was agreed, 'that as well as the referee the two players may be included in consultation if a possible miss occurs'. What does this mean? the referee doesn't call a miss but the opponent of the striker who fouled, thinks it should have been called, they may now ask their opponent 'do you agree that it should have been a miss'? If both players agree then the referee calls a miss and the cue ball may be replaced. If both players do not agree then the referee makes the final decision. This should take the onus away from referees that are not qualified and may feel in an awkward position.
However, this will not apply to matches refereed by E.A.S.B. qualified referees.
PRESENTATION EVENING -
The 2012 Presentation Evening will be decided at the January meeting. Any clubs that wish to be considered should notify myself or a committee member before 31st December 2011. Clubs that so far have registered availability are: ADDLESTONE R.B.L., CHERTSEY SS, KNAPHILL, WEST BYFLEET SOCIAL and WEYBRIDGE SERVICES CLUB.
My contact details are: Text 07767796102 or email 'Kelvin@byfleetleague.co.uk.' [Full Story]
